First round of chemo done!

Monday 21 March - Dee was told that there was not enough staff, due to the Covid outbreak, he wouldn't be able to get his Cyclophosphamide chemo treatment for at least a month! After finally deciding to take the leap of faith with this new line of treatment, this was disappointing to hear. It's like you phych yourself up to do it, then boom... disappointment!

Anyway, Monday is the day he gets his weekly dose of steroids, so at least he had that to look forward to. It gives him a boost in his movement, just a little bit, enough for hope.  This always keeps him awake for hours, especially when they give it to him in the afternoon!! (3pm this week!)

Tuesday morning rolls around, after being awake all night due to the steroid insomnia, and a nurse randomly announces he is going to the Oncology ward for his new treatment!   Praise God! So Tuesday afternoon he had 3 hours of infusion. I asked him how he felt... he said it made him feel... bored! 🤣

Tuesday night he had observations every 2 hours (to monitor the new drug) and was given a cocktail of different chaser drugs during the night. It really put him through the ringer as he had not had any sleep the previous day from the steroid insomnia... he basically went 30 hours with next to no sleep!

Wednesday, however, was awesome!
He had immediate movement improvements in his legs! The doctors were completely shocked! It has given both him, and the doctors, such great hope! He was able to lift his legs for the first time in months!  Such an incredible feeling!

Thursday... woke up with dead legs again. He was a real blow to Dee after having such a good day on Wednesday. Still, there is hope.... and we serve a God of miracles!! FAITH over fear!!

Dee is only just coming back to the land of the living (almost) on Thursday, after having some well needed sleep. He has presented with a racing heart rate though, which is being monitored very closely. 158bpm while lying in bed doing nothing!  Unknown cause. Dee said it didn't feel like his heart was racing, he just felt tired. They are worried he might have Covid, or some type of reaction to the drug cocktail he has just had. They are unsure. Dee thinks it's just cas he is tired! He is also getting asthma so bad that he wanted a nebulizer. He hasn't experienced this for years now. But then admitted, with all the fuss over the past week or so, he may have forgotten to take his preventer, more than just a few times! 😆 (Some things never change... even when you are in hospital!)

Anyway, all up, I would say a pretty awesome week! God is with us. We know he is in this journey with us, giving us the strength to go on. Not sure what his plan is through all this, but he will use Dee's story, for sure!
